No. This reads the real text layer. Scanned documents need OCR, which is on our roadmap.
Is the layout preserved?
Lines and paragraphs are largely preserved, though multi-column layouts may come out in a different order.
Are special characters handled?
Yes, as long as the PDF carries correct font information.
